VIDEO : Billboard's Women In Music Celebrates: Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Missy Elliott, and More

Lady Gaga's earnest, emotional appearance at Billboard's annual Women in Music event on December 11th made it clear to everyone in attendance why Gaga was named Billboard's 2015 Woman of the Year. Gaga hit the stage dressed in an all-red pantsuit, backed by a small string ensemble to perform a powerful version of her latest tune, "Til It Happens To You," on piano. The song, about sexual assault, showcased both her talents as a musician and her dedication as an activist. In her acceptance speech, Gaga noted how difficult being a woman in the music industry can be. "It's really hard sometimes for women in music. It?s like a ... boys club that we just can?t get into. ... Women provide a ...perspective no one else can ... we go through things no one else goes through." She ended her speech thanking all the people who told her she couldn't make it in the music industry. Lady Gaga cheered, "I couldn?t wait to prove you wrong. Because I may not be a lot of things, but I can write songs, and I can sing."
