Idris Elba, the actor who is known for his commanding performances in shows such as Luther, The Office, and The Wire is reported to be the frontrunner for the leading role in the upcoming Dark Tower movie series. The film is based on the popular post-apocalyptic works under the same name by author Stephen King. Elba is slated to be cast as protagonist Roland Deschain, a gunslinging wanderer in search of the titular Dark Tower. Matthew McConaughey is also reportedly in talks with Sony Pictures to play the series' villain, The Man in Black. The film is scheduled for a release date of January 13, 2017.
