From ninja stars to laser guns, the cinematic universe has seen its share of weaponry, yet arguably, none have come close to the iconography or spiritualism of the lightsaber from the Star Wars series. The popular science fiction franchise featuring the fictional energy blade has played a defining role in pop culture since its debut in the late seventies. On December 15th, ESPN will air a featurette hosted by Mark Hamill entitled "Star Wars: Evolution of the Lightsaber." The documentary will take a closer look at the history behind the weapon's craft and fight choreography.
