In an exclusive TODAY interview with Matt Lauer on Tuesday, Charlie Sheen revealed he is HIV positive.
The former Two and A Half Men star said that the announcement was made to stop a smear campaign and extortion efforts.
Sheen told Lauer that he had to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about him, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn't be further from the truth.
The diagnosing was made roughly four years ago but he doesn't know how he contracted it."
The actor revealed that it started with what he thought was a series of crushing headaches. He thought He had a brain tumor, that it was all over."
While he admitted he has had unprotected sex with two people since the diagnosis, he insisted it was "impossible" that he knowingly transmitted the virus. He said, both were informed ahead of time and have been under the care of his doctor.
