Charlize Theron almost starred in director Paul Verhoven?s 1995 critically panned film ?Showgirls.? Verhoven revealed in an interview with the New York Daily News that the Oscar winner nearly landed Elizabeth Berkley?s role of Nomi Malone. ?She was good and wanted the part, but basically she was not well known enough at the time and just did not fit the part, so we said ?no.'? Verhoven also apologized in the interview to Berkley, saying that he should have been blamed for her controversial performance.
