The massive success of Guardians of the Galaxy did many things for Marvel, including injecting some much needed fun and whimsy into the often grim superhero genre. The film?s record breaking box office performance proved that the studio?s gamble on a?risky? film paid off tenfold. It also introduced numerous beloved characters to audiences worldwide, including the (mostly) gentle giant Groot. This character was portrayed in voiceover and motion capture by Vin Diesel, in a role that finally ushered the actor into the Marvel Universe.
