Around the time of The Dark Knight?s ground-breaking success, Christopher Nolan ascended from an up-and-coming filmmaker to one whose every project became an event anticipated and scrutinized by the masses. After all, it?s not every day that someone creates one of the seminal superhero films, and the world was curious about what the future had in store for the man behind it. Both Inception and The Dark Knight Rises continued that trend, earning stellar box office and critical acclaim. However, last year?s Interstellar proved to be perhaps Nolan?s most polarizing release to date ? and though it wound up being his lowest domestic earner since before Nolan?s time in Gotham City started, the widespread discussion of the film is nonetheless a testament to the director?s impact on modern cinema. Now both Nolan devotees and haters alike have a new date to mark on their calendars. Warner Bros. has announced that the director?s next film will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2017, though no details ? not a cast, a title or even a logline ? were released to clarify exactly what this mysterious project will entail. However, Nolan reportedly finished a ?comprehensive? draft of the movie?s screenplay this past summer (according to cinematographer Will McCrabb), so answers may arrive sooner than later.
