Someone must?ve raided Smaug?s hoard because a new JRR Tolkien story is set to hit bookstore shelves in October. Here?s what we know about The Story of Kullervo so far. ACcording to Amazon, Kullervo is brought up in the homestead of the dark magician who killed his father, kidnapped his mother, and who tries three times to kill him when he is still a boy. Kullervo is alone except for the love of his twin sister, Wanona. He is guarded by the magical powers of the black dog, Musti. When Kullervo is sold into slavery he swears revenge on the magician, but he will learn that even at the point of vengeance there is no escape from the cruellest of fates.
According to Amazon, the story was one of the first things to lead Tolkien into Middle Earth, given the statement that Kullervo is clearly an ancestor of The Silmarillion?s Túrin Turambar.
