Channing Tatum has now reportedly locked down his deal with 20th Century Fox to star as Gambit, following prior reports that negotiations were falling apart. Tatum's role as the card-throwing mutant wasn't really in jeopardy. After all, the Magic Mike star has already invested a lot of time into the character. Tatum's expected commitment level to the X-Men film universe was a major factor that needed working out, especially since Fox is looking to him to fill the void left by Hugh Jackman's Wolverine once he hangs up the claws for good. Gambit will begin filming this October under the direction of Rupert Wyatt for an October 7, 2016 release.
