VIDEO : Ricky Gervais' 'Office' Spinoff Film Nabbed By Open Road for U.S.

The David Brent character from BBC's The Office is headed to the big screen in the U.S.
Tom Ortenberg's Open Road Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Life on the Road, which features Brent, Ricky Gervais' character in the original UK mockumentary series. The spinoff movie, written, starring and directed by Gervais, will be financed by BBC Films and Canadian indie studio Entertainment One.
Life on the Road will feature Brent, now working as a traveling salesman, trying to self-finance a U.K. tour of his rock band, Foregone Conclusion. "David Brent getting a big US theatrical release? He can die happy now. (Spoiler alert - he does not die in this movie)," Gervais said Tuesday in a statement.
