Jon Stewart is just a few months away from stepping down as host of the Daily Show, so he doesn't really need to pull any punches. He certainly didn't on Thursday night in an interview with former New York Times reporter Judith Miller, best known for her now-debunked stories about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that helped pave the way for the U.S. invasion. It is among the more contentious interviews he has held in almost 16 years on the program. Miller has been on something of a don't-blame-me-for-the-war-path concerning the perceptions around her reporting and the role it played in the lead up to the second Iraq war, which has also coincided with the promotion of her new book about those topics.
Stewart, often convivial even with guests with whom he disagrees, seemed barely able to contain his contempt for Miller, starting the interview with "...oh boy."
"My feeling has always been ... I believe that you helped the administration take us to, like, the most devastating mistake in foreign policy that we've made in, like, 100 years. But you seem lovely. Why is that wrong?" Stewart said.??
