Uproxx reports, "The Oscars will introduce a Best Popular Movie category in a few years, mostly for reasons having to do with poor ratings and the commercial interests of its network partner, ABC." Most critics have unanimously viewed this new category. The biggest critique is that money and public acclaim are influenced by the same people who run the awards in the first place. Meaning that the best films aren't necessarily the ones most scene. The award is basically giving big blockbuster films more street-cred that they don't need.
