New details about Rey?s mysterious family history and the role that plays in Star Wars: The Last Jedi have been revealed. After 2015?s The Force Awakens, one of the top questions audiences asked pertained to the origins of the young scavenger who quickly learned the ways of the Force and demonstrated tremendous potential. While the film offered some possible hints, much of the heroine?s past is being kept under wraps for the time being. The hope is Episode VIII covers more of Rey?s backstory, providing answers audiences have been craving for nearly two years. Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson has gone on record saying Rey?s parentage is a topic that will be addressed in the film, though that can mean any number of things. While speaking with EW, Daisy Ridley discussed Rey?s parentage, and while she admits it?s important for the character to learn about her past, it seems to be simply for Rey?s peace of mind and not an integral story beat in the sequel trilogy. Given how important Rey?s lineage is to the Star Wars fandom, it?s fascinating to hear that the topic isn?t a huge deal in-universe.
