"War for the Planet of the Apes" is officially the box office champion of the weekend. Fox's distribution chief Chris Aronson said, "First and foremost the movie came in right where we expected it to. We're going to play for quite some time." However, the most recent "Apes" movie didn't quite meet its projections. It was expected to reach between 60 to 65 million earlier in the week and reached just $56.6 million. Nevertheless, the film, directed by Matt Reeves landed in first at the weekend's box office, with "Spider Man: Homecoming" in second at $45.2 million. The latest "Spider Man" installment dropped 61% from last week's opening. In two weekends, the film has earned $208.3 million.
